Vaccine Bus Returns to South Tyneside in Covid Vaccine Boost

The popular NHS Covid-19 vaccine bus is heading back to South Tyneside this week to boost vaccinations in the local community.

The bus will offer booster jabs at the junction of King Street and Mile End Road in South Shields on Wednesday 25 January, and Morrisons in Jarrow on Thursday 26 January, both from 10am to 4pm.

Dr John Lloyd, a local South Tyneside GP said: “Covid has not gone away, so it’s crucial that as many people get vaccinated as possible. The vaccine is still the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones.

“The Melissa bus makes it quick and easy to get protected, with no bookings needed – anyone eligible can simply turn up and get their jab. The bus has always been popular in South Tyneside, so we’re hoping for another good turnout.”

The vaccine bus will be offering booster jabs to those aged 50 and over. Please note that the booster can only be given at least 91 days after your previous vaccine.

Councillor Anne Hetherington, South Tyneside Council’s Lead Member for Adults, Health and Independence, said: “All the research shows that the vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones.

 “With the bus coming into our communities it couldn’t be easier so I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t yet had their booster to hop aboard and grab a jab.”

Community Champions will be around the area, directing people to the bus and advising people on how they can get their jab.
